The Gambia Top Ten Hotels
The following hotels, resorts, lodges, and guest houses in The Gambia are highly recommended (in no particular order):
1. Coco Ocean Resort and Spa.
Built only a few years ago, with Moroccan-inspired architecture and furnishings, the opulence and luxuriousness here is obvious. Royal suites, beach suites, and various other villa-type rooms are available, some with private pools. Even if you don't stay overnight, try out one of the many excellent spa services such as the Moroccan Hamman or have a drink in the cool lounge.
2. Senegambia Beach Hotel.
This is the largest hotel in The Gambia and it has been around for decades. It offers good value with a nice bit of beach and its location is perfect for checking out the "Senegambia Strip" where many of the restaurants and bars are located.

3. Sitanunku Lodge.
Located on the North Bank of the River Gambia, this new, secluded little lodge in amongst a grove of baobabs is really the only "luxury" accommodation choice in the area, though it has no air-conditioning to keep the environmental impact minimal. The private rooms are lovely as will the new infinity pool be once it's completed. The on-site restaurant has good food and the fishing here is great.
4. Guesthouse Gambia.
Several rooms are available at this private bed and breakfast, hidden in a forest of fruit trees and only minutes away from the beach in Sanyang. Enjoy views from the roof-top deck and count the stars at night while sipping cocktails by the quiet pool.
5. Mandina Lodges.
At the site of the Makasutu Cultural Forest, set along a creek, these lodges are ultimate eco-luxury with composting toilets, private outdoor showers, and a choice of either the jungle suites or the floating/stilted suites, all constructed with local materials. Take advantage of the cultural activities on offer including bolong cruises and cooking classes.
6. Sandele Bay Eco-Retreat.
Another eco-luxury lodge, situated close to the beach in Kartong. Uniquely designed suites with composting toilets, solar powered fans, and plunge pools.
7. Hibiscus House.
This bed and breakfast is in the residential area of Brufut. It has beautifully manicured gardens with a clean pool and comfortable rooms - a true oasis surrounded by lively local compounds. Spa treatments are available on-site.
8. Ocean Bay Hotel & Resort.
For a packaged-deal hotel, this is a great choice. The area of Cape Point, just north of Bakau, has a lot of restaurants and bars to choose from and the hotel itself has some nice facilities including a large pool, a wide sandy beach, and two good restaurants.
9. Ngala Lodge.
Eclectic surroundings, colonial architecture, and fabulous food makes this lodge a perfect getaway for romantics. The ocean views are unbeatable, even if the beach is not. Come here for lunch or dinner if you aren't staying overnight.
10. Kombo Beach Hotel.
Great choice for young couples and families with lots of activities, a great beach-front location, and quality restaurants close by.
